We're finished!......sort of

Jordan had his last chemo on Oct. 19th, then had his port removed on Oct. 26th. He is so excited that he is telling complete strangers that "my port is cut out." People grin and tell him "that's great" with a very confused look on their face. We leave on Nov. 9th for a 4 day celebration in Legoland. The kids are very excited. Jim and I are thrilled to find out what Jordan is like without the influence of chemotherapy. It has been so long, that we just don't know. The next year is a little scary as well. The chance of relapse is about 15% in this next year. The doctor went over all of the things to watch for at his last appointment. He also will need a cardiac ultrasound and bone density scan every few years since chemo can affect the strength of the heart muscle and bone density. It was a little bit sobering to hear all of this as we were getting ready to celebrate. Mostly, we are very optomistic. He seems so strong and healthy that it is hard to imagine anything going wrong. He will be considered cured in September of 2009. We will continue periodic updates until that time. With love, Lara

The Last Month

Today Jordan had his last IV chemo treatment and last spinal. He did great, and it feels amazing to have one portion of his treatment finished. He will continue to take oral chemo for four more weeks, and then we are finished. The last week of Oct. he will have the port removed and have a final bone marrow biopsy. We are so excited to find out what Jordan is like off of chemo. After over 3 years, we don't really know any different. We will keep you up to date on our final month! Lara

2 months left!

We are all so excited to finish treatment and get Jordan off of these drugs. There is also a down side. Once we finish...we wait, and pray, and hope, that it won't come back. We go from a state of action....to a state of inaction and waiting. This is a little scary. We were at Camp Side By Side this week (a camp for kids with cancer that our church sponsors). There were two families there who had a child with leukemia that had relapsed. The treatment becomes very different and more intense if relapse occurs. Please join us in praying that Jordan's cancer is completely gone, and that we will have no further chemo! Thanks, Lara and Jim

Under 6 months to go!

Time is flying by with our newest addition keeping us all very busy. Leah is doing really well, and the boys are so great with her. It is hard for me to believe that we are in the final stretches of Jordan's treatment. He has under 6 months to go! We are thinking about going to Legoland in San Diego to celebrate in November. Orlando seems a little too ambitious with a 1 1/2 year old, and Legos are Jordans favorite things. Contact me directly if you are interested in joining us! Lara

A new sister

Jordan continues to do really well and now has under a year of treatment to go. His end date is October 20, 2007. We have been very busy preparing for his little sisters arrival. Leah is being adopted from China and Jim and I will leave in 10 days to go get her. Our blog for Leah's adoption is www.leahchina.blogspot.com. We are all looking forward to a very exciting new year! Love, Lara and Jim

Disneyland with "Make-a-Wish"

Having fun with Goofy at dinner.

I can fly; I can fly. We turned surprisingly shy here.

Being Spiderman at Universal Studios.

We had an amazing time in Disneyland courtesy of the Make A Wish Foundation. We are so impressed with the staff and volunteers of this organization. They were extremely friendly, organized, and lovely to work with. They literally thought of everything we may need for this trip including where to park our car. The most difficult decisions we had to make was where to eat and how many times we wanted to go on the Buzz Lightyear ride (Jordan's favorite). The most amazing part was that we were given a pass to go to the front of every line. That feature truely made it a once in a lifetime experience. Jim and I were able to say "yes" ten times more often than "no" which made it fun for all of us. Jordan continues to do really well and we are having a great summer. He has become quite the swimmer and biker and is growing like a weed. We hope that you are all off to a great summer as well. With love, Lara and Jim

Half way there

On April 20th we reached the 1 1/2 years left point. It is so great to think that we are now on the downhill slope of this mountain. Jordan continues to do great. There has been some difficulty figuring out the best dosage for him to be on that doesn't cause a sharp decline in cell count. But, put that in perspective and it is not a bad problem to have. We are going to Disneyland in 2 weeks courtesy of the Make A Wish Foundation and we are very excited. The boys both really deserve this and we are looking forward to a great trip that is all about them. With love, Lara and Jim
