Day 28!

We made it! The morning started off a little rough because Jordan wanted breakfast just like Noah. It is so hard to deny your kids a bowl of cereal! We ended up putting Jordan in the stroller and walking with him for 2 hours. Jim walked for one hour then I drove and met them and we switched places. We ended up walking to Childrens hospital. Once there things went smoothly and they were able to squeeze him in early. The fact that he was standing in the hall screaming "I want a quesadilla!!" at the top of his lungs may have expedited things. His cell counts look really good and we expect the results of his bone marrow to be good as well. He begins the second phase of treatment today. It is called the consolidation phase and will also last 28 days. He is on a new drug called Mercaptopurine that he takes orally daily. The side effects are minimal. A key component of this phase is weekly treatments of prophylactic chemo injections into his spinal fluid. Again, he cannot eat breakfast before these but hopefully that will get easier as he comes off the steroids. We also have earlier appointment times for the next three weeks which will help as well. It will take 1-2 weeks for the effects of the steroids to subside and by early Oct we should have normal Jordan back. Yeah!!!!Thanks for all your prayers and good wishes. Love, Lara and Jim

WOO-HOO! You go Jordan. There are worse things than screaming for quesadillas. I'll be calling mom and dad soon. Love Aunt Wendy

Boy, I'll have to remember Jordan's technique: bellowing "I want a quesadilla" sounds like a great way to get whisked to the head of any long line!
Seriously, I can't thank you enough for these postings. I'm sure you two are fatigued by the end of each day, but I'm so grateful that you allow us to share some ups and downs with you. I'd bet that many others are like me -- nourished by your words here, and hoping that you'll keep them coming. May Jordan be comforted by all our prayers on his behalf!

Hi there! We are thrilled to hear that you've made it this far and Jordan is on the mend. We say "special prayers" for Jordan every night and your famliy is never far from our thoughts. We will pray that the effects of the steroids wear off quickly -- I know you must be so anxious to have your sweet boy back. Stay strong!

Jim and Lara-Dave and I just read your e-mail and were shocked and so saddened to hear about Jordan's leukemia. We have a blond 3- year old too, Logan- and we have both mentioned more than once during my brain tumor recovery that this is much more "doable" with it being me and not one of our kids going through this, esp. if it was Logan because he wouldnt understand why he had to endure the treatments, etc. You have our deepest sympathy and prayers. We love you guys and will gladly check Jordan's site daily for updates and prayer requests. People have told us that having a site makes all the difference when you are trying to pray with knowledge for someone, and we agree! May God richly bless your family and draw you all closer to HIM and each other through this trial, and may God completetly heal little Jordan and make him more comfortable as he recovers from treatments. Please consider yourselves hugged! IF we can be of any help at all, esp. since we've had some small taste of what you are going through, let us know! Dave and La Shawn Montoya

Hi. I have been praying for Jordan here in Coalinga. I teach children's church and my group wrote get well cards for him yesterday. I wonder if you can send me an address so I can send them up to him. We're from the Lighthouse. Thanks.
